Six acrobats. Six bodies thrown, caught, stacked and flipped, night after night. And one wardrobe that had to look sharp and survive all of it.
For Aloft Circus Arts’ The Pieces, I designed and built six full costume sets: tailored Oxford shirts paired with chinos cut from Romanit jersey, giving the clean silhouette of everyday menswear with the stretch and recovery that partner acrobatics demands. Each set was patterned and graded to its performer, then hand-dyed with Simplicol in a graduated scale of greys, so the ensemble reads as one body on stage while every piece stays distinct.
The costumes were developed during a working residency with the company at Schloss Bröllin (July 2026), fitted and tested in rehearsal, and premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe.
