Passing isn’t a destination. It’s a pair of shoes that never quite fits.

Heels Don’t Lie is a drag-infused performance blending dance, physical theatre, storytelling and lip sync to explore the fluid narratives of gender transformation, torn between inventing oneself and passing into a new norm. Through a sequence of embodied acts, the performers weave together personal trans experiences with humour, intimacy and play.

At the centre of the work are shoes – heels, boots and objects of transition – each carrying memory, identity and shifting meaning. As they are worn, exchanged and transformed, they become characters and symbols of becoming, exposing passing not as a wished-for outcome, but as a constantly negotiated strategy shaped from outside by the binary norm.

Moving between poetry, circus elements and intimate confession, the piece unfolds as a constellation of identities in motion – questioning what it means to be seen, to be read, and to continuously remake oneself.

My role in the piece

Together with Théa Haug I developed Heels Don’t Lie and perform it – with my own texts, monologues and lip sync.
